SA Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011 - Black Coffee

Catwalk observation of Black Coffee
The SA Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011 kicked off with Black Coffee. The show was tagged “Form, Function and Furniture”.  The range was very dramatic and all of the models came out together on the runway.  Each model did something different, this gave the crowd a chance to view each garment in detail. It was innovative, boxy silhouettes were formed through the garments. The range of Black Coffee showed a strong floral inspiration that was reflected in his jackets and on the motives of the fabrics. The color palette was mainly layered with black and grey, with different shades of green, gold and white in some of the garments. The make-up accentuated the mood perfectly, the models lips were covered with gold glitter and they wore the most adorable afro hair. All of the models wore black jelly shoes that crept up to their ankles enhancing the dramatic feeling. This is range, a memorable range.

An interview from ELLE Magazine

We asked Chris Saunders a few questions…

At Fashion Week, why do you prefer shooting backstage, rather than ramp pics?
You get a different perspective backstage and you have more time to really look at the clothing and appreciate the real reason why people come to fashion weeks, which is for the clothing. Of course, you also get to capture something special, a brief moment that not everyone gets to see.
Why was it special to shoot behind-the-scenes at Black Coffee?
Because Black Coffee is always fantastic at what they do. Jacques is an amazing designer and there is a good atmosphere and energy backstage. He is creative and original and that always makes for a great experience.
What do you look for when taking pictures?
To represent the fashion and clothing in its true light.
Tell us about some of the most memorable behind-the-scenes shoots you have done.
The best experience was shooting United Colors of Benetton in New York.
Thanks Chris!
