THE TREND OBSERVATION REPORT

When you think about the winter a cold chill runs down your spine. For the winter you need something to give you warmth and a hugging jersey to make you feel loved, thus knitwear is a usual choice to wear for comfort and warmth during the winter. My trend observation is knitwear! Knitwear is one of the key items for winter because it is comfortable and warm. Your winter wardrobe has to conclude something knitted for example a funky or feminine chunky knitted jersey. Knitwear is something that you can wear in different ways. If you look at the five trend spotting photographs below you will see that the individuals have different types of style. The way that they combine their knitwear with different accessories creates different types of feelings and emotions. Thus creates individuality and self style. My inspiration is thus feminine, chunky and fashionable knitwear. Knitwear is something that will never go out of fashion no matter what! It is something that you can dress up for a night out or you can dress it down for a relaxed day at home. You can wear it any time of day and actually any time of the year, form summer right through to winter. It is absolutely fabulous. It is a must have in everybody’s wardrobe. There is no reason not to have a piece of knitwear in your cupboard.
According to Vogue magazine these types of garments, the knitwear, can be referred to your “flexible friends”, you can wear different types of knitted garments structured in a geometrically-cut, straight-edge cardigans and jumpers with clean but crisp lines.  You can play around with these different styles. Looking at the photographs of Amor and Lize you can see that you can layer with knitwear and it is always a winner because in the winter you need to keep warm. You can layer with v-neck, camisoles, different coloured scarves and low-button jerseys. You can use these ideas to wear at home or at the office because as I said before knitwear is versatile and can be comfortable yet classic. As Vogue states, they describe knitwear as “comfortable and unrestricting…” and are more adaptable to work in and even to relax in. Colour-wise you can play around with bright colours because the winter is dull and lifeless and therefore why not make it colourfull and brighten up this cold season. Knitwear can include your beautiful winter hat and your favorite purple scarf, just like Danielle is wearing in one of the photographs, your leg warmers like Lize’s or your comfortable jersey yet so fashionable just like Amor is wearing in the photograph.
Looking at knitwear as a complete trend it is simply gorgeous and actually so simple but can create an effect that no other garment can create with different textures, patterns and colours. Remember a wardrobe without any knitwear is lifeless.

One of the top 5 looks

Look five
Have you ever felt like snuggling up in winter with a warm blanket? This was the inspiration to my outfit. The poncho from Mr Price was the key item to my outfit because it snuggles around you. I planned my entire outfit around the poncho so I wore a hat that was from Truworths, a scarf, knitted gloves and the burgundy tights from Mr Price and the buckled boots and brown dress from Foschini. To be stylish is very important but to be comfortable in the winter is essential. The winter is cold and unpleasant thus you don’t want to wear clothes that are uncomfortable just for the reason of looking good. You can still look fabulous in comfortable clothes during the winter season, because you can layer different garments like knitwear, one of the must have items that you can layer in winter. Just like my knitted poncho you can layer your clothes and be fashionable and comfortable at the same time.

Today I felt like wearing red! The red knitted scarf is from Woolworths, the black hat with the white thin stripes from Jay Jay’s, the brown jacket from Foschini, my favourite denim from Gazoz, the white shirt from Woolworths, the red leather belt from Guess and the red leather shoes from Nine West. This look is edgy and funky and I simply love it. I have a weakness to wear red as it lifts my spirit and makes me feel alive. Red in the winter is a warm colour and it gives that wow factor to an outfit. I think the key item of this look is the jacket. It is a short sleeved jacket with big buttons and a short waist. It differs from all the other jackets that everyone wears in the winter. This jacket is comfortable, warm, fashionable and beautiful at the same time. What is there not to love? Different types of jackets are essential to have in the winter.

It is a Monday and I am in jeans from Gazoz, a white shirt from Woolworths, a bright yellow jacket from Zoot, brown belt from Mr Price, brown pumps from Foschini and a chunky knitted scarf from Woolworths. Today I needed to feel funky, alive and vibrant. and this outfit made it possible! When you look at the outfit I would say that the key item is the chunky knitted scarf. This scarf is different from all the other scarf’s that I have worn, the scarf is in a circular form meaning that there is no beginning or end to it, you pull it over your head and then you wear it as a scarf. It is fabulous! It is a must have in the cold winter season because it is warm and it cannot untie like a normal scarf. A scarf can make your outfit so much more interesting. I think that one of my favourite garments in the winter will probably be a scarf. It comes in different colours and different shapes and it allows you to play around with your wardrobe.

Look two!

Due to bad wind today I wore my red hat from Woolworths and my warm and comfortable yet fashionable coat from Mr Price. My dress shirt is from Foschini as well my dark grey leopard tights. I wore knitted legwarmers and ankle boots from Woolworths. My whole outfit today had to be comfortable yet fashionable because I had to go to Melrose Arch to take some photos for photography.  My furry red hat was the key item to the entire outfit. It just gave that warm feeling and a little bit of colour to my outfit and when you look at the necklace that I wore, it can be described as a magnificent piece to have because you can wear it as a long chain necklace, as you can see in the photo, or you can wear it as a short necklace and the best thing is, made it myself! The winter may be cold and dull but with a gorgeous coloured hat and a comfortable coat you have the perfect recipe for the winter.

Today I am photographed in my knitted purple dress from Mr Price, my black shirt under the little dress from Woolworths, then my very comfortable and funky leopard tights form Mr Price, my shoes from Woolworths and the Paris looking hat from Edgars and my little black scarf from Foschini. In the winter I love to layer, because it is cold and miserable. The hat that I am wearing is the key item. The look without the hat is boring and plain. Pay attention to the fur above the shoes. You probably thought that shoes just looked like that but the fur is actually socks that are made to wear under your boots. These socks just gave a different look to the boots that I wore and gave it a more warm and comfortable look. Playing around with my clothes in the winter is so much fun. I just love it!
